SAIL Amsterdam, set in August under the theme “United by Waves,” was predicted to draw more than two million visitors to the city’s waterfront. To catch the gaze of the bustling crowds, the event required durable, high-visibility signage across multiple harborside zones. Wind exposure, limited installation windows, and irregular mounting surfaces made traditional hardware unsuitable. To satisfy all of these conditions, the branding team found a solution in BannerSaver™, which offered a reliable, reusable system that could endure maritime conditions while maintaining consistent visual impact.
BannerSaver™ supplied and installed 178 banner bracket systems throughout the event area, printing over 10,000 banners for the entire system. A pre-event site survey determined optimal placements, accounting for wind loads, sightlines, and crowd flow. The marine-grade brackets were customized for various railing and pole types, ensuring stability in high winds and corrosion resistance in the salty air. Installation was completed in coordinated phases with event operations, avoiding interference with vessel movement or pedestrian traffic. The modular design even allowed for quick adjustments on-site and simplified post-event removal for reuse in future activations.
The completed installation delivered strong, cohesive branding across the harbor, reinforcing the event’s theme visually and photographically throughout media coverage. Despite challenging weather, there were no hardware failures or safety incidents. The use of reusable, durable materials also aligned with SAIL’s sustainability goals, reducing waste and long-term costs.
